Little Nelson Mountain

Yesterday, Greg and I hiked Little Nelson Mountain. The peak was near Ferron, UT - Ferron is about 10 miles south of Castle Dale. Instead of going through Price to get there, we went to Fairview and headed up Fairview Canyon. The canyon road goes to 9,600 ft, it was so awesome on the canyon road. The road is plowed all year round, so we could see how much snow we have gotten for the year. There was tons of snow and there were so many places where the snow had not been touched at all. The snow was so smooth and bright white. We also saw a wild turkey on the side of the road. Too bad it isn't closer to Thanksgiving. :-) Unfortunately we never stopped on the canyon road for pictures. We only got a couple pictures of our hike also. It was a long day and the hike was a little harder than we thought it was going to be. We didn't stop to take lots of pictures, because we didn't want to be in the dark for too long on the way down. But we did get another peak!

This was the easiest part of the hike. You don't even want to know what the rest of the hike looked like - Steep, muddy, snowy, rocky ...you name it, it was there.

Pigeon Mountain

For Valentine's Greg and I took the WRX for a little road trip. The only place that Greg's new car had been since he bought it was up to Brighton ski resort - Greg drove up Big Cottonwood every night beginning with the day he bought the car. So, we wanted to take the Rex on some dirt roads to see how it would handle. Our day started at 10:30am, when we left the house. We headed to Wendover and got away from the crappy weather that was stuck in the Salt Lake valley. Once we got west a little ways it was blue skies for miles to the west. From Wendover we headed through Oasis and Montello. There was a peak out there named, Pigeon Mountain that we had planned on hiking. We took a couple dirt roads to the peak and "got 'er done." It was a great hike. We had a late start on the hike, so while we were coming down the sun was setting. The cimulus clouds to the east were so big and fluffy. With the sun setting on the clouds they turned bright pink - perfect for Valentine's, right? Once we got back to the car we headed to Snowville and then jumped back on I-15. We got home around 11:30pm. The Rexs first adventure with us! We had a great day and a great hike.

The "6" is Retired

Greg and I are both sad to say that the 6 is retiring from its days of off roading and car camping. The Mazda has had many good trips with us and has had a good long life. Finally at 315,000 miles Greg has decided to let go of the 626 and get a new car.

So, on the other hand - Yay, Greg got a new car! His new car is a 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX. It is such a nice car and we hope that it treats us as good as the 6 did. We are so excited to take it camping this year. Greg seems to be most excited about the cruise control, since neither of your cars have it. :-)

Where to Start

So, I am assuming that everyone's first post has to say something about them being new to the blogging world, right? Well, here I am - trying to write a message and I have no idea what I am doing. We will see how well I can keep up with this posting stuff.

Since almost everyone in my family has a blog I thought it was time to make Greg and I one. Plus we have so many pictures that no one ever gets to see, I thought this would be a great way to show everyone what we are up to on the weekends.
